My name is Tariro Chingano

I work alone creating batiks, doing beadwork and screen printing which I started in February 2005.  I was inspired to start selling after receiving training in the above and learning from others.  My raw materials are sourced locally and include cotton fabrics, beads, dyes and tinters.  A screen printing machine and sewing machine are my main forms of equipment.

As a crafter I face many challenges with the main ones being access to capital and marketing space here in Zimbabwe.  I don’t have a store of my own so I tend to sell at monthly craft markets, at big events like HIFA (Harare International Festival of the Arts), the Harare Agriultural Show (craft section) and other similar events.  When I sell to stores it’s often on a consignment.

My designs are self inspired but sometimes a customer may ask for something specific which inspires me with new ideas.  My most successful products are my screen printed t-shirts which I fund by reinvesting income from other sales. I try to advertise my work through websites, fairs and adverts/flyers.  Access to capital is a big challenge but I hope to one day establish a big outlet for my products.  My craftwork is my sole source of income.

If you need to reach me I can be contacted through ZAACA or on +263 77 272 2226 or tarirochigango@yahoo.com.  My physical address is 1486 Unit A Seke, Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe or 5612 Unit J, Seke, Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe.
