Hello

My name is David Jangara and I am well known for my unique and creative push toys with action.  These are basically wooden toys I make by hand which move when pushed. I can make anything from a wooden lady bird to a border jumper swimming across a river with a crocodile in hot pursuit!  Children love my toys and they sell very well at local craft fairs.

I am a carpenter by trade andd very interested in creativity.  I started experimenting with these toys as early as 1986.  I’ve received informal training here and there, for example HIFA artisan workshops. But for the most part I am self-taught and self-inspired.

I work alone and my primary tools are wire, wood and paint which I buy in local stores and waste metal cans that I clean up and reuse to reduce waste in the environment.  As a carpenter I use more complex machinery than some of my peers, for example, I use a thicknesser machine, a drill, pliers, a grinder, a scrall saw, circular saw, sander etc…  In spite of this I am still very much challenged by a lack of the right tools, the right capital to do business well and electricity for my machines.

I sell my work in craft stores to art galleries and also to cross border traders.  I have never directly exported anything on my own. However I have received assistance in the past to export my toys to cuntries like France.

My most successful toys are crocodiles and lions.

If you are interested in ordering my product you can contact me through ZAACA or directly on +263 779 551 284 or davjangara@gmail.com. My home base is 5536 Hatcliffe Extension, Borrowdale, Harare.
